狄仁傑，生於唐貞觀四（６３０）年，卒於武則天久視元（７００）年，字懷英，唐代並州太原（今大原南郊區）人，自幼才學出，以明經舉第。唐高宗儀鳳元（６７６）年，升任大理丞，親躬審案，剛正廉明，明察善斷，循律準確，處理積案無數，牽涉人命一萬七千多。
