Introduction About the author Shifan: Writer, former diplomat and speechwriter for Chinese State Leaders. He was Spokesperson at Chinese Embassy in Kenya. He studied at Fletcher School of Tufts University and Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University. He participated many diplomatic events, UN conferences, World Economic Forum, APEC conferences, and many wildlife protection activities such as donation to wildlife NGOs, Yao Ming's visit to Kenya, Li Bingbing's visit to Kenya, UNEP wildlife protection initiative, events of Save the Elephants, DSWT, and etc. He made policy recommendation to the Chinese Government of implementing total ban on ivory trade and providing substantial support to the effort of fighting poaching crimes in Africa, especially in Kenya.About the Novel It is the first Chinese novel on African wildlife protection. Fictional characters and heart-breaking drama are based on present Kenya and true historical events such as King of Elephants Satao's death, Westgate Shopping Mall Attack, and the life and stories of founders of DSWT's Elephant Orphanage and Save the Elephants. It is a current version of Out of Africa, an epic of one hundred years of wildlife protection in Africa, and a moved-to-tears love story. The novel tells a war correspondent, a wildlife ranger and their interactions with the family of Satao, King of Elephants and the legendary founders of DSWT and STE. Hanwen, who was from an ivory carving family and almost became a successor of the unique art, but he went to Africa to be a war correspondent. Xuehao, also went to Africa for healing her broken heart from her boyfriend in London. They met under a jacaranda tree. She forced him to film those orphaned elephants. They took a small plane and flied over the Rift Valley. They danced around bonfire with local Samburu people. They drove to follow the movement of an elephant family. They saw elephants fighting with crocodiles and lions. They also saw the brutality of poaching and death of a mother elephant. They escaped from the Westgate shopping mall attack and cried for their friend killed during this attack. They tried to stop poachers from hunting Satao. On a hillside that they could see the snowcap of Mountain Kilimanjaro, they fell in love and he said to her, a beautiful day spent in Africa, far outstripped a whole life in other parts of the world.
